I’ve been talking a lot about a movie I saw called Griff the Invisible. Here’s the long and short of the story. Griff thinks he’s a super hero and goes out at night saving Australia from criminals with his superpowers. He decides the best way to really be a great super hero is to be invisible. He meets a girl who is trying to figure out how to walk through walls (so she’s got her own unique worldview) and completely supports Griff’s desires to be a superhero. The only problem is, Griff is totally delusional and isn’t a superhero at all.
Ultimately, the love and acceptance Griff receives from his new girlfriend for being the wonderful way he is, and visa versa, allows the both of them to be accepting of themselves and be a lot happier.
So, in my mind the movie was all about being happy with who you are without judgement. I think about times in my life when I felt like I had to conform to some norm that wasn’t really me, and how much it just didn’t feel right. The most right I feel is when I’m myself. That was my take from this movie – the happiest we are is when we are true to ourselves. That’s really what yoga is saying. Be yourself. You are perfect. See yourself as you are.
Here is a short yoga class with this theme in mind — enjoy!
